This Week from Mitch

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Alleluia, Christ is risen!

I hope all of you are well and that the joy of Easter is still fresh in your hearts. This Sunday will be special in the life of our church! Music will be led by our children and youth as St. Martin's hosts the annual Treble Festival. The Treble Festival is a wonderful sacred music tradition, and it is an honor for St. Martin's to host these talented musicians and choirs from all over the Carolinas! They have worked hard and have been diligent in their practice. Come help us celebrate them. It's going to be lots of fun.

Our Gospel this Sunday is the story of one of Jesus' post-Easter appearances. The disciples are eating with Jesus. He then asks the disciples to touch him in order to feel for themselves that he is real. As we prepare for summer, I have found myself reflecting on the rhythm of drawing near and experiencing God in the sacraments. I am drawn to the idea that we are able to touch Christ through our common prayer and the Eucharist, and that having touched him we can be strengthened. Having been strengthened we are then made ready to enter the world in love and peace, ministering to the needs of others.

Please, my friends, make worship a habit this summer. Come to church here at St. Martin's. If you inhabit another community try worshiping there. You never know, you just might encounter the divine.

In Christ,

Mitch
